About Birgitt
Hello, I'm Birgitt, founder of Puppy & Dog Paradise. I started this sanctuary with the goal of rescuing pregnant dogs and giving their puppies a chance to properly grow. My life’s mission is simple: to improve the livelihood of animals and help dogs find loving, supportive homes where they can truly belong.
Since 2021, I have been running a small dog sanctuary in Markdale, Canada. After my beloved aunt passed away, I was blessed to take over her home and transform the land into a safe haven for dogs who needed care, healing, and a second chance. Today, our farm is home to 10 wonderful dogs, each with their own story and personality.
At Puppy & Dog Paradise, the dogs live as a family pack, where they can play, learn social behavior, and build trust with humans. Many of the dogs who came here had experienced trauma or neglect. Using a combination of patience, communication, and holistic care, I help them regain confidence and joy. Over time, they transform into wonderful companions ready for the right human family.
For me, adoption is not just about giving a dog away, it’s about finding the perfect match, where both the dog and the human feel safe and connected.
However, this journey began long before the sanctuary.
Many years ago in Germany, I met a 4.5 month old Border Collie puppy named Susie when I visited my close friends. They had many dogs under their care. One evening, we went on a long walk through the forest. The dogs ran freely, always circling back to their humans, never running away. During that walk, Susie chose me. By the end of the day she stayed close to me as if we had always belonged together. She understood me in a way that felt almost telepathic, watching my thoughts, responding to my feelings, wanting only to be near me. She simply trusted and connected with me. This moment inspired everything I do today.
Before moving to Canada, I worked for over 30 years as a holistic health practitioner and teacher in Germany. That experience deeply shapes how I care for animals today. I use a variety of natural methods to support dogs physically and emotionally, including trauma recovery techniques, frequency healing, holistic nutrition and emotional communication. Healing happens not only through medicine, but through presence, sound, and connection.
My dream is to share my knowledge and experience with other dog parents so that they can build stronger connections with their furry companions. Dogs deserve to be understood, and that first starts with their humans taking the time to learn about them.
I also hope to raise awareness about the importance of compassionate animal care and inspire better shelter systems that focus not just on housing dogs, but truly understanding them. Animals deserve more than survival, they deserve love, respect, and a life filled with joy.
